Learn Traditional Shorinryu Karate from an instructor who lived and trained in the birthplace of karate, Okinawa, Japan. Jurgens Sensei has over 40 years of experience, speaks the language, and understands the culture of a traditional dojo. He holds an 8th Degree Black Belt in Karate, and an 8th Degree Black Belt in Ryukyu Kobudo and is the senior ranked person in his association outside of Japan. Classes focus on developing fundamentals and then applying those skills through forms and self-defense techniques. The focus is on personal betterment, not competition or sport. The approach applies to all ages; it is great for kids and even better for adults, who may benefit most from the range of motion, balance, and strengthening drills. Adults also benefit from getting a break from a stressful day. Expect to learn some Japanese Language terms, traditional forms, and vital applications from those forms while also getting some work on pads and flexibility in this class. All advancements are recognized by Japan and any Dan Ranks (Black Belts) are issued by the association president and head instructor, Akamine Hiroshi Sensei, who is in Japan.
